Learning to throw pottery had always been in my ‘someday’ file that
everyone seems to have. Taking clay from the earth and make it into something
useful always amazed me. So, I took a class with a friend and I was hooked. Throwing
pottery has become my stress-reliever, my time of day to center myself and
enjoy the simplicity of creating.
I believe pottery needs to be used, enjoyed, and created with a quality so each piece can be passed down through the generations. Classic with a contemporary twist is how I define my work. Where do I get my inspiration from? From how I am feeling that day, to a picture a friend posts on the internet, or the way an Autumn tree is losing its leaves. Pottery is all about experimentation to me. How can I throw a different shape? Is there a way I can alter a form but keep it functional? Is there a new glaze combination I can try that I haven’t done before? That is the excitement of it all. Each day is something new; never will anything turn out the same way. It is a gamble so I just throw it out there and see what I get.
